Davro Boomerangs throwing instructions back to the boomerang shop
Left-handers need left handed boomerangs. Substitute "left" for "right" in these instructions. Your throw will be the mirror image of that illustrated.

IMPORTANT:
Choose a calm day and a large grassy field free from obstacles.

THE GRIP:
Hold either wing of the boomerang as near to the end as possible, making sure that the flat (undecorated) side faces the palm of your hand. Either pinch boomerang loosely between thumb and side of forefinger (fig1) or wrap one or two fingers around wing tip (fig2). Now prepare to throw by facing approx 45° to the right of the wind direction (fig 3).

THE THROW
the launch is almost vertical. The layover angle varies between 10° - 30° to the right (fig 4) according to type of boomerang. Keeping this angle bring boomerang back over your shoulder and with an overarm action launch it on a slightly upward flight path (fig5)
This snappy action is similar to cracking a whip.

Your boomerang will spin forward circling anti-clockwise (clockwise for left handers) on it's path back to you.

THE CATCH
(for small lightweight models only)
trap boomerang between hands (fig 6) at waist height as it hovers in on return.
NEVER attempt to catch a diving boomerang catching a boomerang

MOST IMPORTANT

    1. Release boomerang almost vertically i.e. (/) not (-) (fig 4). It will start flying in a verticle plain and alter by itself to return in a horizontal plane (fig 3). You risk breakage if you throw it too flatly, as this causes your boomerang to climb steeply and come crashing to the ground.
    2. Impart plenty of spin. this is vital for a good return. If you are getting an incomplete return first check grips (figs 1 & 2) then try a little more spin with less force.
    3. In practicing you will learn to adjust to the prevailing conditions and enjoy the satisfaction of accurate returns. Each day, and each boomerang will be subtley different.

SAFETY RULES

    • Don't throw in strong or gusty winds.
    • Always throw from the centre of a grassy field with at least 70 metres (76 yards) clear on all sides.
    • Make sure area is completely free of people and obstacles.
    • Only one person should throw at a time.
